Meet Luckson, the ninth child to come to our orphanage.
Luckson was born on June 20th 2005 to teenage parents in the city of Jacmel. When he was only one year old Luckson’s mother lost her life to AIDS. At the time of Luckson’s mother’s passing, his father was just 17 years old. Unable to raise a baby on his own he made the decision to leave Luckson in the care of family. Unfortunately his family could no longer care for Luckson so his father set out to find help.
On January 4th, 2006 Luckson’s father came to us begging that we please take in his son and give him the care he deserved. He believed his son was HIV+, Luckson had tested positive for HIV around the time of his birth. When Luckson and his father came to us we had both of them tested just to be sure. The tests came back with good news, neither of the two had any trace of the virus
We all still agreed for now that the best place for Luckson was in our care, so he stayed with us.
Luckson has now become best friends with Yakime and the two boys play and play all day long together. Luckson also formed a special bond with our orphanage dog, Toutous. Back in April when the volunteers from California (Gala and Deb) would arrive at the orphanage in the morning, Luckson would be waiting patiently to enter the yard and play with Toutous. He and Deb would bathe her, brush her, caress her and all the while he would whisper cute things to the little dog.
Today Luckson’s father works as a motorbike taxi driver as well as a construction worker when jobs are available. He frequently comes to visit Luckson with the hope that one day he will be able to care for his son on his own.
