Meet Jesula
Name: Jesula
In our care: March 27, 2008
Birthday: April 11, 2007
Status: HIV+
Jesula was our 12th child, born on April 11th, 2007 in a north eastern city in Haiti called Ouanaminthe. When she was about nine months old her mother passed away from AIDS and Jesula was left at an orphanage run by Catholic nuns from Colombia. The nuns prayed very hard for Jesula but against their prayers, she tested positive for HIV. Lacking the funds and resources to care for a special needs baby the nuns were at a loss of what to do.
Their prayers were finally answered when a UN soldier heard about WeCanBuildanOrphanage.com and shared with the nuns that our orphanage did in fact care for special needs children. The nuns journey to us would take more than a day, but they were filled with hope and ready for the journey. They wrapped up Jesula and made their way down to Jacmel.
Jesula arrived at our little orphanage on March 27th, 2008. The nuns were so happy that Jesula had a safe place to be cared for. Jesula has 2 older sisters, 10 and 14, who are living with a family up in the north, unfortunately they were unable to care for a baby. The nuns gave us Jesula’s sisters contact information in the hopes that one day the girls may be reunited.
Jesula is doing wonderfully today and loves to play with the other kids. She likes playing cars with boys and loves to play with the parachute that was donated last April.
