Last but not least…Meet Idoris!
Name: Idoris
With us since: Aug 9, 2008
Birthday: May 17, 2007 (he was found on this day, at the steps of the Albert Schweitzer hospital in Dachapelles, estimated to be between 1 to 3 days old max)
Status: HIV- Microcephaly
Idoris was the last child to come live with us at the orphanage and we all have a very soft spot for this tiny 2 year old.0
Idoris was found May 17th, 2009 on the doorstep of Hospital Albert Schweitzer in Deschapelles, located in the northern part of Haiti. The doctors there estimated that he was between 1 and 3 days old when we found him. After examining him the doctors determined that Idoris had tetanus and is disabled as a result of this infection. Unfortunately we were never able to confirm the initial diagnosis since we were never given his original medical report.
Due to over crowding Idoris was placed in a crib far too small for him. He was unclothed and placed on a feeding tube because the staff had no time to bottle feed him. Instead of baby formula Idoris was fed regular milk which led to malnutrition.
While visiting the hospital, our physical therapist Chery took note of Idoris. She asked us if we would please take him in because he was in need of round the clock care. On August 9th 2009, that is what we did. We immediately took him to our hospital to get a clearer diagnosis of what was going on with him. After many tests, which included a visit to Port-au-Prince to get help from a visiting American neurosurgeon, we found that Idoris has Microcephaly. Some of the symptoms that Idoris suffers from are fluid in the brain, very little brain tissue, frequent seizures, and an underdeveloped head. He is blind, def and has minimal movement in his body. Unfortunately there is no way to treat this disorder and we have been told to keep him as comfortable as we can.
Despite all that he has been through Idoris is in a very good place where he is well fed and given much love. Lia has a soft spot for him and finds him to be very handsome, especially when he wears his super cool hat and his tie-dye t- shirt.
