Meet Amawanda

Kids

Name: Amawanda
In our care since: October 27, 2007
Birthday: January 21, 2006
Status: HIV negative, severely malnourished

Amawanda was the third child to come live in our orphanage. She was born on January 21st, 2006 in Macary, Marigot. Her mother passed away for unknown reasons and her father had never played any part in her life. Given that for all intent Amawanda had no father after her mother’s death, Amawanda was left in the care of her uncle.

Amawanda’s uncle had no means to take care of her and when Leslie (the former orphanage director) found her she was severely malnourished and dehydrated.  Amawanda was almost two years old when we found her, she was so weak she could not even stand on her legs. We immediately admitted her into the hospital where she remained for 10 days. At the hospital, Amawanda received IV fluids and was placed on oxygen.

Finally she came home to WeCanBuildanOrphanage.com on October 27th, 2007. Today Amawanda is far from malnourished, she loves to eat! Full of energy and ready to jump in whomever’ arms will receive her, Amawanda is a true delight.

HELP CHILDREN IN HAITI

Meet Martin

MartinMeet Little Martin. On a routine visit to a hospital we noticed a little disabled boy in one of the hospital cribs. The boy had been left to fend for himself, he had no identification and his birthday is a mystery. He had been in the hospital for a few days and had been severely neglected: his diapers were soiled and he was covered in lice. No one had taken any notice of this little boy in a few days and we were left with no choice but to bring the little boy home. In honor of one the Kay Angel founders we named the boy “Little” Martin.
