This Sunday the 18th, is Oktober Family Fest to benefit the Schmitt Family orphanage, and we thought we would give you a sneak peak of our cool festival logo! We are so excited that we just can’t wait to show you! One of our amazing volunteers Dana created this logo for us and we know you will love it as much as we do!

Unfortunately the Polsky Family Band had a scheduling conflict and will not be able to play at the Oktober Family Fest after all. Although we are sad that they will not be able to play we have found an awesome replacement! The Muddy Reds!

The Muddy Reds bring a sound steeped in roots, blues, and swamp music (I luv swamp music) that is hard to define unless you’ve heard it for yourself. If you want a sneak peak click here.

As you may know by now WeCanBuildanOrphanage.com is hosting their first annual Oktober Family Fest, October 18th, and we thought this would be a good time to introduce you to some of our musical acts. Fist off, Meet the Polsky Band! This amazing local family loves to get everyone in the mood for dancing with their old time bluegrass and fiddle music.

Next up is Peter Alsop who we all had the pleasure of meeting in last week’s blog.

On August 7th of this month we had the exciting opportunity of being the featured non-profit at the Topanga Film Festivals Friday night screening at “Trust Ranch” (the founder of WeCanBuildanOrphanage.com house). Not only did Urs and Sara, the founders of the Topanaga Film Festival Feature us, but their kids dressed up and sold candy with information about WeCanBuildanOrphanage.com on it. They were the best volunteers ever!

We had a good week last week! From meetings with an awesome local chef who has agreed to help us at the festival by donating his time, and over seeing the entire food process at our October Family Fest. That’s right we got a pro! We are so excited to see what he comes up with for our BBQ. One thing is for sure it will be mmmm…mmmm good.
On Tuesday we met up with Dan, our graphic designer, to start brain storming on a cool logo for the event, keep your eye’s pealed for that. He also spoke with Organic Pastures and they are going to set up a raw milk and Kombucha tasting tent more treats, yum yum

This weekend I had the pleasure of attending an event for Hollywood Unites for Haiti (HUFH) at the Kress Night Club. As many of our readers know I have been speaking with other Haiti organizations to find ways to join forces to promote greater change, and HUFH is one of them. The Heroes actor from Haiti Jimmy Jean-louis heads up the HUFH team and hosted this wonderful event, promoting awareness.

Jimmy Jean-louis, Jeannette, Won-g
It was quite an event complete with raper artist Won-g, another Haiti native. It was wonderful to see everyone show their support and ideas for the future of Haiti and I am so glad that the WeCanBuildanOrphanage.com team was able to attend.

Thursday, July 30th was Estania’s birthday (again
), she turned 9 years old! It’s amazing how fast time flies, it feels like we just celebrated her birthday the day before yesterday. Her last birthday was when we just moved into the new house we are in now. It is shocking, just how fast a year goes by.
This year Lia decided not to do a cake, but to throw a little party for Estania outside the orphanage. So off the triplets went to Hotel Florita for cokes! Lia also decided to invite Wilky, Lesly a former employee from the orphanage, and a few other friends. Then after an hour of partying the girls had a therapy session with Wilky.

As a child, Wyclef Jean immigrated to the U.S. and grew up to live the American dream as a gifted and famous musician. As Scott Pelley reports, Jean is now using his talents and wealth to help his native Haiti.
