Earthquake, Fund-raising, Kay Angel, Kids

Saturday 23 January 2010 ~ Jacmel Haiti

When the crew from RTL 4 News was here, they gave us some medical supplies from their travel survival kit. Some of it we can use very well, but other items like blood plasma, and lots of gauze we do not need for the moment.  So in the afternoon I quickly went over to see our Dr. Ernest at the hospital to give him these items. He was very happy with them, he certainly has use for all of it, he said with his big smile.

Then  I asked him if he please could find some time to come and see us for his monthly visit. Obviously he missed his January visit that was scheduled for Friday 15, January 2010. At that time he was way too busy with all the victims of the earthquake at the hospital, and we decided that at that time he was needed there much more than with us.

By now, after living in the street for 11 days, I feel that is is important that our kids have a medical check-up.

Our little Zaël, who will turn 2 on March 15, 2010 has developed some skin problems, caused by all the germs in the dust on the street. I knew from day 1 living in the street, that these problems will occur.  Sophie has some of the same skin problems as well, the doctor has prescribed cortisone for them.

The dust has many more illnesses to offer, like colds, fevers and flu’s.

It is a good thing that we found that extra tent, so that the kids can play in there, away from all the dirt. Our sleeping tent is great at night, but in the daytime it is way too hot to be inside, because it has no protection from the hot sun.

The other tent is shaded by a tree.

    Hi,

My name is Tanya and I live on the Kapiti Coast in New Zealand. I have been following the plight of the victims of the Haiti Earthquake. I would especially like to help those children orphaned by the recent disaster and so started surfing the net to find a cause that needed help. Hence I came across your web-site. I am in awe of you and your workers and would like to know how to help you in your journey in rebuilding your orphange.

I am organising a fundraising venture at my work and hope to raise a few thousand dollars which I would like to donate to you.

What is it that you need most in the near future?

Is there anything that I can do for you here in NZ?

I look forward to hearing from you and hope all is well with your little ones.

    Regards,
    Tanya

Like Tanya in the blog above, I wanted to help and seached for hours and hours for an orphanage to help. I came accross “we can build an orphanage”

Then I signed up and sent it to over 2000 emails of contacts I have. I think the problem is that it automatically goes to spam. This is the one that shows where a person can donate by buying one item at a time. Also, it isn’t updated for the earthquake. I didn’t even get one reply. Is anyone else trying like myself to raise money for the orphanage and finding the website tool isn’t working? I really thought I could help since I have 2 sons in college who could really spread the news.

Thank you Rhonda for contacting us. I have forwarded your comment to the orphanage administrators. They can help you with your donations. Thanks so much for caring!

HELP CHILDREN IN HAITI

Meet Martin

MartinMeet Little Martin. On a routine visit to a hospital we noticed a little disabled boy in one of the hospital cribs. The boy had been left to fend for himself, he had no identification and his birthday is a mystery. He had been in the hospital for a few days and had been severely neglected: his diapers were soiled and he was covered in lice. No one had taken any notice of this little boy in a few days and we were left with no choice but to bring the little boy home. In honor of one the Kay Angel founders we named the boy “Little” Martin.
