Adventures in Haiti Part 3

Fri, Oct 9, 2009

Kay Angel, Kids, Video

Friday was an early start, and was non stop! The first thing we did was head out to the orphanage to watch the triplets during their in-house school for a bit. It was wonderful to see what a positive experience school is for them. When the school day was finished for the girls they decided to sing a song for us, what a treat!

After our serenade, we decided to break out a few of the games we brought from the states. Like any kid, they were entertained for a while but were ready for more. The more we came up with was taking the kids out for some fresh air and a coke. The kids love coke, and the coke here comes in a ½ leader glass bottle! A few cokes were shared and it was off to the town play ground for even more fun. We met an American-Haitian name (Reginald) that moved to town to take over the care of his grandmothers property. The kids love the play set and would play on it all night, but after an hour or so it was time for the kids to have dinner back at the orphanage.

Meeting Reginald

After dropping off the kids we had dinner at Hotel de la Place to catch up with Lia and Franz, the people who run the orphanage in Haiti. We had a great time chatting with them but dinner was awful and we were all tired. It was no surprise that we went back to the hotel a bit early so we could be ready on Saturday, for even more adventures!

HELP CHILDREN IN HAITI

Meet Martin

MartinMeet Little Martin. On a routine visit to a hospital we noticed a little disabled boy in one of the hospital cribs. The boy had been left to fend for himself, he had no identification and his birthday is a mystery. He had been in the hospital for a few days and had been severely neglected: his diapers were soiled and he was covered in lice. No one had taken any notice of this little boy in a few days and we were left with no choice but to bring the little boy home. In honor of one the Kay Angel founders we named the boy “Little” Martin.
