We left at 7 AM this morning to go to Healing Hands in Port au Prince to pick up the special custom made support soles for Martin.

On the way to PaP I played lots of different music from my Ipod as I was sitting in the back with Martin. It was amazing to see his reaction to different music. He does not like Hiphop music at all, he started crying every time I would play that. Then I played Miles Davis’ song “All blues” and he immediately sat up straight, got all quiet, his eyes moving from left to right as if he was really concentrating on the music, he even looked like Miles to me
He also really likes Shade, it is so cool and interesting to see him smile to music he likes.

This week there is a special team of doctors and physiotherapists visiting Pazapa, the school for handicapped children that Martin goes to.
They are evaluating all the handicapped children and give medical advise and support, they also set up individual exercise and therapy plans for each child for us to continue until they come back next year in November.
They do this in collaboration with Healing Hands, a clinic in PaP.

Through the Jacmelhealthnetwork group we have joined about 6 months ago we were alerted about an American dentist team visiting Jacmel and working out of Tet Kole ( a local health center) for 2 days.

We were finally getting settled into Haiti today and we had quite a few meetings to get through. We started with Art Creation Foundation and it was awesome to see what the kids were doing. I would equate it to a Boys and Girls Club in the US. They do not go to school there but they eat and have a creative outlet, the work born from this opportunity is awesome. It was quite an inspiring place to see.

Last Thursday it was Yakime’s 4th birthday! We decided to wait until Saturday afternoon to celebrate his birthday. Our triplets spent Saturday morning making birthday decorations and presents for Yakime. Then at 2 PM it was time for the party.

Our first stop was Pasquette, to a private home with a very nice garden where we let the kids play with balloons, and just run wild. The next stop was a public park on the road to Port au Prince, this was great, they really felt we went far to get to Yakime’s birthday party.
As we mentioned last week in our blog post, we hired a boss to do a few repairs around the orphanage and one of the repairs was fixing the roof for our laundry area. We decided to do this last Sunday, the only day the laundry ladies don’t wash clothes so that the work could be done fast without bothering anyone.

The boss did the whole job for just $36.14
The materials were a little more, 14 sheets of tol or corrugated roofing, 2 types of wood, and lots of nails costing $145.54
