Private Beach Treat

Lia, in her typical out of the box fashion found a way to bring our kids to a private beach! She asked a friend of hers, the Boucard Family, if it would be alright to take a field trip to their beach. This way the kids would have a safe beach to play. The beach has trees and shade, a lot of nice white sand, and the water is safe. There is no strong current, so the kids are free to play in the water as the result of the reef in front of the swimming area. it.

On August 7th of this month we had the exciting opportunity of being the featured non-profit at the Topanga Film Festivals Friday night screening at “Trust Ranch” (the founder of WeCanBuildanOrphanage.com house). Not only did Urs and Sara, the founders of the Topanaga Film Festival Feature us, but their kids dressed up and sold candy with information about WeCanBuildanOrphanage.com on it. They were the best volunteers ever!

Visiting the Sisters of Charity

Earlier this month Lia found some time to go and visit the Sisters of Charity. She decided to take the triplets and Ambroise with her. As you may remember from the story about the Sisters of Charity visiting us at WeCanBuildanOrphanage, all 3 of our girls have spent time with the Sisters, and they all remember them fondly. The Sisters were very complementary and said, “the girls look so good and healthy,” and one of the sisters even said, “they did not look this good when they were in our care.”

Roof for the Laundry Ladies…

After last year’s hurricane season at WeCanBuildanOrphanage the roof of the laundry work area was ripped off completely. Given that money has been tight we decided to do the best we could with the materials we had. What we came up with was fixing the roof with some of our old water damaged floor-mats. I have to say it held up for quite a while, but just this week in time for the new hurricane season our inventive repairs started to fall down. That’s what will happen after three seasons of Haiti rain and sun!

We had a good week last week!  From meetings with an awesome local chef who has agreed to help us at the festival by donating his time, and over seeing the entire food process at our October Family Fest.  That’s right we got a pro!  We are so excited to see what he comes up with for our BBQ. One thing is for sure it will be mmmm…mmmm good.

Organic Pastures

On Tuesday we met up with Dan, our graphic designer, to start brain storming on a cool logo for the event, keep your eye’s pealed for that. He also spoke with Organic Pastures and they are going to set up a raw milk and Kombucha tasting tent more treats, yum yum :)

Big Beds for the Triplets

Since August of last year Youseline has been sleeping in a big-girl-bed at the orphanage, because we needed a crib for Idoris. But like any siblings, the other two triplets, Melinda and Estania have been very jealous and have wanted big-girl-beds of their own. Unfortunately we just did not find the money in our budget to buy two more big beds. This past week it was unavoidable, the girls have just gotten to big for their cribs and it was time to give them what they had wanted.

Hollywood Unites For Haiti Benefit

This weekend I had the pleasure of attending an event for Hollywood Unites for Haiti (HUFH) at the Kress Night Club. As many of our readers know I have been speaking with other Haiti organizations to find ways to join forces to promote greater change, and HUFH is one of them. The Heroes actor from Haiti Jimmy Jean-louis heads up the HUFH team and hosted this wonderful event, promoting awareness.

It was quite an event complete with raper artist Won-g, another Haiti native. It was wonderful to see everyone show their support and ideas for the future of Haiti and I am so glad that the WeCanBuildanOrphanage.com team was able to attend.

Estania Turns 9!

Thursday, July 30th was Estania’s birthday (again ;-) ), she turned 9 years old! It’s amazing how fast time flies, it feels like we just celebrated her birthday the day before yesterday. Her last birthday was when we just moved into the new house we are in now. It is shocking, just how fast a year goes by.

Cokes! Yea!

Cokes! Yea!

This year Lia decided not to do a cake, but to throw a little party for Estania outside the orphanage. So off the triplets went to Hotel Florita for cokes! Lia also decided to invite Wilky, Lesly a former employee from the orphanage, and a few other friends. Then after an hour of partying the girls had a therapy session with Wilky.

HELP CHILDREN IN HAITI

Meet Martin

MartinMeet Little Martin. On a routine visit to a hospital we noticed a little disabled boy in one of the hospital cribs. The boy had been left to fend for himself, he had no identification and his birthday is a mystery. He had been in the hospital for a few days and had been severely neglected: his diapers were soiled and he was covered in lice. No one had taken any notice of this little boy in a few days and we were left with no choice but to bring the little boy home. In honor of one the Kay Angel founders we named the boy “Little” Martin.
